GOING NATURAL

Natural

From the vegan diet to the clean beauty movement, going au naturale is a massive trend for us humans who want to lead a healthier lifestyle. But, as it turns out, many have found this way of living provides similar benefits to our furry friends. We’ve listed here four ways that you can start your pet on the natural path.

PET FOOD: The most common way to bring a more holistic lifestyle to your pet is through their diet. Feeding is a huge aspect of their overall health, which means nutritional content is just as important to them as it is for us. When searching for natural pet food look for meats within the first five ingredients and avoid any ingredients that are synthetic or that you don’t recognize. Often, keywords such as “raw,” “dehydrated,” or “frozen” are what you want. As always, before you switch up your pet’s diet completely, talk to your vet and ease your pet into it.

REMEDIES: When our pet start to feel down or becomes sick, it’s never easy to know what to do. Consult with your vet, and consider holistic options to treat at home. Several herbal remedies may help alleviate discomfort. Try treats infused with CBD to stimulate relaxation in pain-ridden pets, or reiki treatments to encourage calmness in those more anxiety-prone. To prevent ticks and fleas, diets high in vitamin B and garlic are said to deter those buggy pests.

GROOMING: Perfumes, detergents, and chemically-based soaps are known to cause issues in human grooming products. For pets, it’s not so different. With pet grooming products being less regulated, mild ingredients and gentle formulas are a safe bet. Soaps with essential oils and organic botanicals can be just as effective as mainstream cleansers but don’t strip natural oils from the skin or cause as much adverse reaction.

SUPPLEMENTS AND TREATS: If you’ve noticed a trend, it’s that we’re steering clear of any chemically-made or overly-processed products. When it comes to supplements and treats, be aware of what’s going into your pet’s body. Keep an eye out for supplements whose vitamins are derived from whole foods, and treats that are made up of “dehydrated” or “freeze-dried” raw foods.
