MUSIC TO THEIR EARS

Chances are that music plays somewhat of a role in your life. Maybe you love to dance on a night out on the town, or maybe a restful night's sleep begins with soft tunes. In the car, the shower, while you're working, while you're meditating—whatever you do, music adds something to your everyday activities. It's mood-boosting, relaxing, energizing, as a lot of wellness experts might attest. So, why couldn't this be true for pets?

Well, Spotify has launched a playlist that really got us thinking. They announced in January 2020 a customizable Pet Playlist. After going to their pet playlist generator and answering questions about your pet, watch as their algorithm produces a collection of songs that match your pet's personality.

They surveyed and discovered that 71% of pet owners play music for their pets, 80% believing their pet enjoys music. If anyone sings to or dances with their little pal, you're among the majority of pet owners!

The idea behind it all is that music might actually provide our pets the same benefits as it does us. We know animals respond to noises—barks and meows as communication, howls and hisses for when they're disconcerted. Colorado State found classical music to soothe kenneled dogs in 2012. According to Psychology Today, there is further research to confirm that pets do have a musical taste and emotionally respond accordingly to various types of music.

Whether you're queuing songs for relieving their anxiety while you're not home or spending time bonding with a little shimmy, music can be instrumental in affecting their mood. Try it out and let us know! If you're a Spotify user, share your playlist type in the comments or tag us on Facebook and Instagram.
